The Mississippi Research Consortium (MRC) consisting of University of Mississippi, Jackson State University, University of Southern University and Mississippi State University have been tasked by the Mississippi Governor’s Office through the Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) to develop an oil spill related research and educational plan.

A team of economists from these universties are estimating the short-term, medium-term and long-term impacts of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill to the state of Mississippi. Updates about the activities of this Team will be posted in a forthcoming website and through progress reports.

This economic team has already started the initial one-year impact assessment project and expect to release project updates on a monthly and quarterly basis.
