MISSISSIPPI SOUND ESTUARY PROGRAM TRENDS IN REGIONAL EMPLOYMENT
From the economic model of the Mississippi Sound Estuary Program (MSEP) region built in Lightcast (https://lightcast.io/), the annual trends of regional employment was developed.
The MSEP region consists of 36 Mississippi counties. The annual trends in the number of jobs in the MSEP region from 2001 to present are shown below.
The number of jobs shown above includes QCEW Employees, Non-QCEW Employees, Self-Employed, and Extended Proprietors.
From the Bureau of Labor Statistcis (https://www.bls.gov/cew/), the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program publishes a quarterly count of employment and wages reported by employers covering more than 95 percent of U.S. jobs, available at the county, MSA, state and national levels by industry.
Lightcast data on the MSEP regional employment had been rising, after declining during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, reaching almost 1,000,000 jobs in 2024.
