MISSISSIPPI SOUND ESTUARY PROGRAM REGIONAL ECONOMIC PROFILE
Two economic models were created for the Mississippi Sound Estuary Program (MSEP) region. The first model was created in Lightcast (https://lightcast.io/) while the second model was built in IMPLAN cloud (https://implan.com/).
An initial industry model for the MSEP region has been created in Lightcast. The MSEP region consists of 36 Mississippi counties.
A second industry model was created in IMPLAN for the MSEP region, which consists of 36 counties. IMPLAN data show that the MSEP region produced $192.6 billion in total nominal output, about 60 percent of the Mississippi total nominal output in 2022 ($324.9 billion).
With this IMPLAN economic model of the MSEP region, an analysis of the regional economic profiles in 2022 were performed.
With the industry models for the MSEP region built within Lightcast and IMPLAN cloud, economic analysis of the region's economic characteristics can begin.
First, the MSEP region's economic trends can be compiled from Lightcast such as Number of Jobs, Labor incomes, Gross regional product. The socio-demographic characteristics of the labor force in the MSEP rgion can also be compiled by industry.
- Trends in MSEP Regional Employment
- Trends in MSEP Gross Regional Product
- Trends in MSEP Regional Labor Income
Second, economic simulations can be performed using IMPLAN cloud models to measure economic impacts of the program. For example, will the creation of the MSEP or similar efforts result to enhanced economic activities in the region?
- These direct impacts can be expressed in terms of added employment, investment or productiviy.
- An enhanced economic activity in the MSEP region has indirect and induced impacts in the region.
- Furthermore, any enhanced economic activity in the MSEP region has economic implications to the rest of the state and nearby regions in other states.
